  • where shall I go

Let me share my weekend with you.

Friday afternoon hubby and I headed north to have a brief impromptu visit with son. We had supper with him at Cracker Barrel, which was delish. Since this was not a planned visit, he already had plans for the evening, which was understandable. However, we did get a nice visit in then, going to Cold Stone for dessert after supper.

Hubby and I spent the night at a fairly new Holiday Inn there. There was a wedding in town so rooms were limited, but our room was quite nice -  clean, well lit, and comfortable - and we enjoyed it. It was also pretty close to the places we wanted to visit.

Saturday morning we had breakfast buffet at the hotel, which was delightful. The bacon was crisp. The eggs were very well cooked. The coffee was not the best I've ever had, but it was certainly quite adequate. I also had the first grits I have ever had at ANY restaurant that actually tasted like grits and was not cold or lumpy. So kudos to them for a job well done.

After breakfast, we went over to Walmart to pick up a few things. I found some baking pans to replace my old yucky ones. Then we went across the street to Hobby Lobby. I didn't need any yarn, but was looking for a particular brand of thread. Sadly, they didn't have it. I ended up buying one skein of yarn and some sewing supplies including some cute Winnie the Pooh fabric to make stuffed Pooh, Tigger and Piglet. I am imposing on daughter to sew those up.

Son met us for lunch at Don's restaurant. Hubby ordered a combination meal that had a little of everything. One of the things included was shrimp gumbo. I haven't eaten that in quite a while, but I tasted it and actually liked it! No one was more surprised than me. LOL They didn't have much rice in it, but there were quite a bit of shrimp considering it was such a small bowl. Son had grilled crab cake appetizer which he said was wonderful, and a chicken meal. I had ordered boiled shrimp but I didn't find they had much taste. I did eat a few of those and also a few of hubby's fried shrimp which were good. I shared the rest of the boiled shrimp with hubby and son. Son said if you ate the onions that were cooked with the shrimp, they had more flavor.

We headed home then, satisfied with our visit and our shopping.

I have continued to take the pain meds, mostly for swelling of my hand, and wear the wrist support. I am trying today to go without the support for a little bit.

I am quite liking my Droid phone. There have been a few things to get used to and some things we had trouble getting to work, but overall it's been nice. I think the fact that hubby has had one for a year and can explain things to me and make suggestions has been a GREAT help.

Today I had a leftover waffle for breakfast and we are having fried shrimp cooked by hubby for lunch.

I am doggy sitting so there are giant black mounds of furry animal sprawled in my living room. LOL They are being so good. Makes one wonder... heh

That is all. I will post this same blog at both the other places and probably continue for the next few days until I decide which one I like best. Not sure what to do about my Crafty Corral but I certainly can't clear my cookies and cache every time I want to post to it.

    Have a great week!

    Blessings,

    Sandie

  • Back for my 2011 post.

To update, my Mom is now 91 years old. She fell in the shower, broke her leg, and is now in a skilled nursing facility while she recuperates. The doctor says four months no weight on that leg.

Son decided that college was not for him. He continues to work at the same place, but with more hours. He had a couple of motorcycle accidents, the last of which left him with a fractured wrist. He is wearing a splint on that and hopes to be out of it in a few weeks as it hinders his performance at work. Could have been worse so we are glad of that, but hopeful he will recuperate fully soon. He will be making a move to a new apartment soon.

Kate quit her job and is doing a wonderful job at making a home for them in a small space. Jeremiah continues to work full time at his job. They have a small garden which we are working to keep Jack out of. He is quite interested in the doings in there.

One of my nephews got married a few months back and another is expecting a baby in the fall. Life moves on ...

Everything else seems to be going well, apart from the occasional bout of illness that everyone gets.

Hope all is well with whoever is reading this.

    Blessings,

    Sandie

  • Too many things have happened since my last Xanga post to possibly catch up, but I'll give it a try as much as I can remember.

In October, Todd and I had a nice vacation in Tennessee at Fall Creek Falls visiting with a few of his friends. They decided to do it again this year. Unfortunately, the last day of the trip I strained my knee - ligament or muscle or tendon or something. I began massage therapy and it is now much, much better than it was. I don't think hiking agreed with me, but I loved the beautiful scenery there.

Son started college and is in his second semester presently.

Daughter and son-in-law and the two dogs are doing fine. Both working. SIL did some repair work on the fence so the dogs would stop getting out. It seems to be working so far. *fingers crossed*

Jack, our Shih Tzu / Bichon Frise is doing okay. We still have a few kinks to work out - like the digging and getting filthy so that he needs a bath just about every day, and the throwing up in bed. But generally speaking, he's doing well. He lets us know how happy he is to see us when we leave.

My mom had carotid surgery last week and is recuperating well.

My sister had a few strokes, but is doing fine. They did not leave her with any lasting effects. They still don't know what caused them, but she is seeing doctors periodically and taking tests. Generally speaking she's doing well.

I think that catches up most things. You can always find me at blogger for weekly updates.

  • Catching up ... Looking back at last entry ...

My leg is actually starting to get numb again. LOL I've changed my sleeping position and I think that may have contributed as well as more hours at the computer. So I'll change both and see if that helps.

Mom seems fully recovered from her cataract surgery, but doesn't feel it helped very much, if at all. Her hearing and vision are both very poor. Her hearing has particularly gone downhill in the past few weeks. We've all noticed it, even on the phone. This makes me sad as it decreases her enjoyment of her days.

I've gotten an influx of yarn which was donated to me by a friend of a lady who passed away. She left yarn and nobody in her family could use it so I am being blessed by it. I have been making things and donating in her name so her presence is being felt all over the country. I thought it would be a nice way to remember her.

I'm still crocheting. Presently working on baby hats. I met a local lady who is going on a mission trip to Guatemala end of the year and she will be bringing items for the orphans there. I am thrilled to find someone local to donate to. One of the worst things about charity crocheting is the cost of postage.

I should have started off with this, but son has been discharged from Army due to the EIB. He just got home a few days ago so not sure what God has planned for him now. He is just enjoying his freedom to be able to go where he wants to when he wants to.

    Guess that's all for now.

    Blessings,

  • Wow, it's been months since I posted here. Mea culpa! I do keep up my other blog regularly.

Let's see what has happened since last time.

Sadly, our dog passed away in mid-December, about a week before son came home for Christmas leave. We miss her.

My numb leg is no longer numb. I have not had any more occular migraines thus far. The area where the cyst was removed is just as hard a knot as when I had the cyst so no progress there.

The car repair was fine but since then I backed into a cement post and the back end is all wonked now.

The events surrounding son are too numerous to mention. Suffice to say, he is still at the training base at this time, diagnosed with EIB (Exercise Induced Bronchospasms - asthma). He sees a doctor today and we are hoping for some decisions to be made. We'll see what happens.

My mom had cataract surgery and she is pretty much healed from that now. We are investigating getting one of those emergency response services since she's alone most of the day. We wanted to do this years ago, but she didn't want. Now she seems to be okay with it. We also wanted to get someone in to come in and clean and now she seems to be agreeable to that as well. Yay! Progress.

On the home front, we're trying to watch our spending since the economic times are not good. With that in mind, I've curtailed my yarn expenditures and have been working from my stash on smaller items. Hats and scarves have been needed so that worked out well. Now that summer is on the horizon, I guess those things will not be needed as much.

I've also pretty much used up my man-colors so I'll have to think of other things to work on with what I have left. I've been wanting to make a baby sweater, so I think I might do that at least for one item. I also have some UFOs to work on. Not too many though as I went through them not too long ago.

Guess that's it. Everyone is going about, doing their own things as they are able.

You are fortunate because you don't have to be bored by all the day to day stuff. You get it in a nutshell. LOL

Hope all is well with everyone at Xanga.

    Blessings,
    Sandie
